Standard Training Program
Performance Training Program
This camp comprises two coaching programmes of different levels and intensity. The programmes take places in different locations:
Standard Coaching Programme
This programme is open to girls and boys of every football skill level. It comprises 15 hours of football coaching per week. In terms of location, participants on the standard programme train in Valdebebas (Real Madrid’s sporting city and the home of Real Madrid’s training ground). Participants are accommodated in the Erasmo residence.
Technical Coaching Programme
The technical programme is designed for girls and boys with federated status (which means they play for a club in their home area), who have basic football skills and who are accustomed to taking part in regular physical activity. As well as technical training, this programme also contains a theoretical component and includes training on, for example, strategy, positions, visualisation of games etc.
The players who participate in the technical programme train at the facilities of Campos de Villaviciosa de Odón and at the grounds of the Universidad Europea de Madrid. They stay at the residence of the Universidad Europea.
In 1902, a group of university students in Madrid got together to form a football club. Originally known as “Madrid Football Club,” they eventually added the word “Real” (Royal) to their title and in 1929, became one of the founders of the Spanish Football League (La Liga), winning the title at their first attempt.
For a 10 year period from 1931 until 1941, the club was forced to drop their royal name when the country became a republic. Their full name was restored at the end of the civil war.
Real Madrid originally played their football at a stadium in the Chamartín district of the Spanish capital before moving to their current home, the ‘Estadio Santiago Bernabéu’ (Bernabéu Stadium) in the 1940s. Santiago Bernabéu was a former President of the club, and is considered as the man responsible for transforming Real Madrid into the hugely successful club it is today. In fact, it was Bernabéu who recruited the legendary Argentine player Alfredo Di Stefano, who went on to win 19 titles in 10 years at the club.
The arrival of Di Stefano coincided with the emergence of other famous players such as Zoco, Pirri, Amancio, Gento, Velásquez and Sanchís, who all helped to turn “Los Blancos” into one of the world’s greatest teams in the sixties and seventies.
As many great players left, more arrived and Real Madrid’s success continued into the eighties and nineties inspired by the five players known as the ‘Quinta del Buitre’ (Vultures Cohort). Between them, the “vultures” (Emilio Butragueño, Míchel, Sanchis, Pardeza and Velázquez) led the club to five consecutive La Liga titles.
Between 2001 and 2003, a host of star names including Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Ronaldo and Luis Figo arrived at the club. The team, and those who had an influence on its success during this era, became known as ‘Los Galacticos’.
In 2008, rivals Barcelona began dominating European football under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. But Real Madrid soon fought their way back to glory with another Copa del Rey win (2010-2011) and a League title (2011-2012). Later in 2012, they added another Spanish Supercup to their haul, and followed that up with another Copa del Rey win in 2014 and two Champions League titles in 2014 and 2016 to take their overall tally to 11.
Clases Ingles/Español Fundación Real Madrid
At the Real Madrid Camp participants on both the standard and technical programmes who want to improve their language skills have the chance to take an English or Spanish course, comprising 5 hours of lessons per week.
The language courses are overseen by prestigious language institutions - the English classes come under the direction of the British Council, while the Berlitz Academy is in charge of the Spanish classes.
As well as offering a wonderful international setting, with young people from more than 90 different nationalities, the camp offers, through its language study, a unique opportunity for students to practise their English or Spanish and make friends from all over the world.
Language classes at Football camp
Spanish or English Classes Real Madrid
The teachers are native speakers of the language they teach. They are qualified in language training and experienced at teaching intensive summer courses to groups of young learners in a multicultural environment.
The language Courses
The teachers deliver lessons based on a football theme and on the interests of the students themselves.
At the summer camp, students receive 5 English or Spanish classes per week, from Monday to Friday. The maximum number of students per class is 15 and each group comprises learners of similar ability. The language courses take place at the student residence which is the accommodation used by camp participants. The classes take place in study rooms which are fully equipped for this purpose.
The English (or Spanish) teachers use a very participative methodology which is fun and engaging for the students and gives them ample opportunity to develop their speaking skills.
The lesson plans are oriented especially to young people who love football, using their social environment as a reference point.
Examples of teaching methodologies used in the English (or Spanish) classes are: situational role plays, pair and group working, all situations designed to encourage student participation.
