Sotogrande, located in San Roque, Spain, is the largest privately owned residential development in Andalusia. Known for its incredible contrasting views of the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea as well as its exquisite green fairways, Sotogrande is home to one of the best summer golf camps in the Iberian Peninsula.
The camp takes place in July and August and accepts students from 8 to 17 years old. Students at the Sotogrande Golf Camp find accommodation at the Sotogrande International Boarding House, a 4-star hotel that has been renovated into a spacious and modern student residence. The school provides all kinds of facilities and excellent care for participants, so they can spend their summer doing what they like most, practicing golf with other international students from all over the world.
Highly international environment
Transfer service is included in the price
Language teachers are experienced native speakers
Not recommended for participants with an advanced golf level
The school welcomes students from 45 different nationalities each summer, making it the perfect environment to learn a new language. In fact, language classes are mandatory. Younger students at camp take French classes, and older students can choose between Spanish or English classes. All language teachers are native speakers.
The programs are two-week programs, but students are welcome to sign up for three or even four weeks.
Enthusiasm, friendship, and fun is the motto of the Sotogrande Golf camp. Through their golf training, students learn the importance of a positive attitude and a strong work ethic to accomplish their goals on and off the course.
This camp is designed for beginner or intermediate golfers with a handicap higher than 13 or 14.
For participants with an advanced golf level, we recommend the Jason Floyd camps.
The camp separates students into three different training groups based on their level of play. Since groups are small, all participants receive personalized attention and instruction so that they can learn as much as possible. Training sessions are held from Monday through Friday for about three hours a day (except for Wednesday when students go on an excursion to an attraction nearby). In total, they train for about 12 hours per week.
The younger students (8 to 13 years old) train at La Reserva Golf Club. Older participants (14 to 17 years old) train at Almenara Golf Club. Both of these clubs are located in Sotogrande, only minutes by bus from the Sotogrande International Boarding House where participants reside.
La Reserva de Sotogrande Golf Club
Opened in 2003,the Sotogrande Golf Club features an 18-hole golf course with huge greens and magnificent views of the sea. It is rated as one of the best golf courses in Spain by Golf World Magazine.
Almenara Golf Club
The Almenara Golf Club is also located in Sotogrande. It was designed by Dave Thomas and has 27 holes with deep bunkers and large lakes. It’s truly a magnificent environment to enjoy golf with one of the most impressive tees in Europe.
Participants at the Sotogrande Golf Camp get the opportunity to experience a truly international summer camp environment. Each summer, students from 45 different nationalities attend the camp, making it the perfect place for students to practice speaking foreign languages. That being said, most students speak English to communicate with each other and their camp monitors and coaches.
Language classes are mandatory. Younger students take French classes, and older students can choose to take English or Spanish. Students attend these language classes for 14 hours per week. All teachers are native speakers to guarantee that students are learning properly and also to expose them to native accents. Class sizes are small with a maximum of 12 students per class. The average is typically about 7 students per class.
Language classes at Golf camp
When students first arrive to the camp, they take a placement test so they can be grouped with other students who share a similar level. That way, students learn more and feel more comfortable practicing their second language skills. At the end of the program, they receive a diploma accrediting the level that they have achieved during their stay.
Agenda and Activities
The kids will not stop doing things during their stay at the camp. Daily they will go to their training sessions and later to their English classes. Afterwards, there are many activities and games for them organized by the staff for that the kids can have a great time.
This is an example by way of orientation of the activities performed by a child in the standard program:
