Nike tennis camp Training
There are 3 available programmes depending on the level and aims of the player:
Total Tennis Programme
This most intensive coaching programme is geared towards tennis players at intermediate or advanced level. The main aim of this programme is to improve players’ level. It comprises 34 hours of coaching which will cover all aspects of the game.
Apart from coaching on technique and tactics, improvement of shots and strategic aspects, there are also other lessons and seminars which cover themes such as improving physical fitness, preventing injuries, nutrition and game preparation.
In addition, each participant is assessed (including video analysis) to identify the areas they most need to improve and focus on these in order to reach their maximum potential.
Tennis Programme with English
This programme is designed for boys and girls whose aim is to improve their standard of tennis and also study English. The programme offers 20 hours of tennis coaching per week and 12.5 hours of English lessons. It is open to participants with any level of tennis or English.
Tennis + Advanced English Programme
This programme combines intensive tennis coaching of 30 hours per week with advanced English classes. The minimum age to access this programme is 12 years (compared to the other two which have a minimum age of 10) and it also requires participants’ English level to be at least B1.
The Technical Team
The camp’s sports coordinator is Gill Lemore, a highly trained professional with substantial experience in Europe and the United States.
Another key member of the team is Nicola Slater, a professional doubles player and PTR-qualified coach.
English classes - Nike tennis camp
The simple fact of travelling to London to participate in a camp means that participants are immersed in the English language and this in itself will bring about an improvement. In addition to this, two of the three programmes available include English classes. In the programmes with the language option, participants have their level of English tested so they can be placed in a group with other students of similar level.
Language classes at Tennis camp
The classes are delivered by qualified teachers who are trained in the ‘Content and Language Integrated Learning’ (CLIL) method. This means that lessons are conducted in a participative style and there is considerable personal attention. This method is used in the most prestigious schools all over the world, with excellent results.
As well as the more traditional classes, participants also work on projects related to the theme of tennis, which is a motivating factor. At the end of the camp, the students take home a file with the work they have completed in class, a certificate of attendance and an individual assessment with advice on maintaining their improvement.
Option 1: Standard English Course
This course includes 12.5 hours of lessons per week and is available for students of all levels (from beginners to advanced).
Option 2: Course in Advanced English
This comprises project work and group presentations once per week. It is open to girls and boys from the age of 12 years and participants need at least a B1 level of English to enrol.
Nike Tennis Camp - Agenda
The participants have a very full programme throughout the camp. Each day they are active from first thing in the morning, attending coaching and English classes. However, once they have finished for the day, they have free time to relax, play games or socialise with their camp mates.
Weekends at the camp are more relaxed, with a break in the training routine. Part of the time is spent going out on excursions which gives participants the chance to get to know the different emblematic places connected with tennis and to see the famous sights of London.
Visit to London
This starts with a shopping trip to ‘Niketown’ in Oxford Street, and continues with a more educational tour of the capital, seeing sights such as Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square.
‘Real Tennis’ Experience
Participants will learn the history of the game of ‘real tennis’ and have the chance to play a game at Hampton Court, the world’s oldest tennis court still in use, Radley College, a prestigious English school or Petworth House, a historic National Trust mansion.
All England Club at Wimbledon
In this exclusive tour, the students will visit the Wimbledon grounds, exploring the traditions, triumphs, images and sounds of the world famous venue which was founded in 1868.
