Training

Training sessions at the Leicester Football Academy are held within the sports complex of the University of Leicester which is equipped with three high-quality football pitches.

A team of professional coaches are responsible for leading the sessions in which the children are taught to improve their technique in various areas including shooting, passing and dribbling.

The students will also learn about the strategy and tactics of the game.

In total, there are 12 hours of football training a week where, as well as improving their level, the participants can also have fun playing their favourite sport with their new friends. A schedule of matches are played throughout the week so the children can put into practice what they have learnt in the training sessions.

The training is adapted to suit all levels of football and the children are grouped according to age. There is one coach for each group of 12 pupils.

English Classes

Football is not the only subject that is studied at the Leicester Football Academy. Students also spend 12 hours a week attending English classes at the facilities of the University of Leicester.

Upon arrival at the summer camp, the children are tested to establish their current level of English and then assigned to an appropriate group.

Each language class has around 12-16 pupils and focuses mainly on improving the students speaking and listening skills, while not forgoing grammar and punctuation.

The language teachers at Leicester Football Academy are all experienced professionals who focus on creating a fun and motivational environment where children can learn in a natural way.

To help the children to get the most out of their language experience, all of the camp activities are carried out in English. This helps the children to significantly improve their level in a short amount of time.

Agenda & Activities

The Leicester Football Academy is not all about training and studying. During their free time, the children will get the chance to take part in a wide range of activities.

The University of Leicester’s sporting complex contains a multitude of different facilities where the children can enjoy a range of sports including tennis, cricket, volleyball and basketball. There is also a well-equipped gym and a swimming pool.

Once the football training and English classes have finished, and the children have had their dinner, the leisure activities begin. Every evening, there is a different schedule may include such activities as a cinema or disco night, interactive board games, competitions, quizzes and mini-Olympics.

Excursions

Once a week, the camp participants are taken on a full-day excursion to see some of the better-known English towns and cities such as London and Oxford. The outings give the young people a chance to have fun and get to know their new companions while also having a break from the routine of the camp. During the excursions, the youngster will visit different places of interest and get the chance to shop for souvenirs.

As well as providing excellent sports and language teaching facilities for Leicester Football Academy, the University of Leicester also provides first class accommodation for the students.

Each youngster is provided with a single room equipped with a washbasin, wardrobe and desk, and access to a shared bathroom.

Facilities

During their stay, the children have access to all of the university’s sporting facilities which include tennis courts, football and rugby pitches, basketball and volleyball courts, a gym and a swimming pool.

Additionally, the University is located near to a botanical garden, which has spacious outdoor areas where the students can hang out and relax. They also have access to various rooms where they can watch TV, play games, read books, use computers, play music and enjoy video games.

The children will not be able to use their mobile phones at the camp but they will be able to connect to the internet during specified hours.

Meals

The camp offers a buffet service in the university cafeteria, where the menu offers a healthy, balanced diet that is adapted specifically to the needs of the children. The price of the camp includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two snacks during the day.

Supervisors

In the interest of safety, the children are not permitted to leave the camp at any time unless they are attending an official excursion. When they do leave the camp for a day trip, the will always be accompanied by a team of supervisors who will look out for them at all times.

The University of Leicester is located in the city of the same name, in the county of Leicestershire, England. It is situated approximately 160 km to the north of London.

Transfer Service

This camp offers an optional airport transfer service at an additional cost. The service consists of supervised escort and collection to and from selected airports:
For arrivals between 8am and 1pm and departures between 1pm and 6pm the costs are as follows:

  • East Midlands Airport or St Pancras Train Station: €90 one way or €180 return. (This is the closest airport to the camp)
  • Heathrow and Gatwick Airports: €110 one way or €220 return

For arrivals and departures at all other times the price is as follows:

  • All locations listed above: €330 one way or €660 return

Bookings

To book a place at the Leicester Soccer Camp, it is necessary to pay 50% of the camp fee in advance. The remaining balance must be paid by May 31.
