How to become a member of a football team and at what price

Why is it necessary to become a member in order to participate in some football camps?

In Spain, all children that want to compete for or belong to a football team are obliged to become members, therefore it is not surprising that in some summer football camps, they demand that participants have been affiliated in their countries of origin.

The Federation License is a document that grants the player the status of member of its Football Federation and prepares them to be able to be selected in the matches and competitions, official or not, which are organized both in their country as well as abroad.

Many football camps in which they seek to initiate the player into the sport do not have as a requisite the need to be affiliated. But the majority of the technical camps, based on the more specific training programs that seek to improve the technique and tactics of the child, do demand that their participants possess this license.

This requisite is owed to the fact that the level of training is greater and the children should have previous knowledge of strategies, positions and shooting techniques to be able to make the most of the camp. Additionally, these camps need their players to have more or less the same level so that they can all train in the same conditions. A child that has already played a match and therefore is already affiliated can follow the pace of the training perfectly and be at the same level as the rest of his campmates.

How can a child be affiliated?

In the same moment in which the child starts to play football matches with a club or with a school, the organization is obliged to affiliate them so that they can take to the field. They apply for and send out the licenses with a federative form which differs according to the category of the child. It could be a form of:

  • “PB” Prebenjamin: 6 to 8 years
  • “B” Benjamin: 8 to 10 years
  • “A” Beginner: 10 to 12 years
  • “I” Child: 12 to 14 years
  • “C” Cadet: 14 to 16 years
  • “J” Juvenile: 16 to 18 years

In this form you must fill out the child’s personal details, the details of the club to which they belong and attach a photo and identification number or family record book. After processing, the child should go undergo a medical examination in order to confirm the child’s general good health to be able to play football without risks.

How much does it cost to become a member and when can a child be affiliated?

As a general rule, the federation licenses are processed at the beginning of the season so that the children can play in all the matches that year, but the affiliation or disaffiliation of a child to or from any particular club or federation can be arranged at any moment in the season. The fee for the federation license varies depending on the autonomous community (region), although the annual price is approximately €20.
